Agricultural activities resume in the community of Igangan after the intervention of Igboho Investisseur

Igangan Agro Park Investors Association (IAPIA) President Femi Abioye said the 2021 farming season was the best for farmers in the Igangan community in Oyo state as they attended a harvest of bounties.

Abioye said that after Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, intervened in the murder and kidnapping of farmers by criminal shepherds, farmers have long returned to their farms as agricultural activities resumed in the community.

“If you go back in history, it was very difficult for farming communities all over Igangan, even commercial farmers who farm on government land, it was very difficult at one point, about 23 investors have moved to Igangan about 4 years ago. , we only have about 5 investors left in January 2021, mainly due to destruction by criminal shepherds.

“So, with the violence perpetrated by criminal shepherds on the people of Igangan, the activities of Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, came to their aid.

“Before it was just destruction of farms and mutilations of the local population, but much later banditry entered and serious kidnappings before Sunday Igboho arrived.

“Although his activities were rude, but at the same time it yielded results because the removal of the Seriki Fulani in Igangan who protected the herding community, the good and the bad reduced the atrocities of the shepherds to almost zero. in Igangan, ”Abioye said.

He said that in the 2021 farming season, both commercial and subsistence farmers have recorded a bounty harvest, and 2021 is the first year he has planted corn and has seen no destruction by herders.

“Now when you talk about agricultural crops, there has been a bountiful harvest throughout Igangan for this 2021 agricultural season for both commercial farmers and locals.

“I can tell you that this is the first year that I, as a commercial farmer, have cultivated a corn farm without destruction by shepherds. My farms have always been destroyed by criminal shepherds in the past.

” It’s recorded ; in september 2020, a group of about 88 cows were arrested on my farm when they destroyed 25 hectares of corn farm which were almost ready to be harvested in one day. This is what we suffered in this Igangan community, ”he noted.

The president of IAPIA revealed that two investors who took out loans to start a business in the community of Igangan fled for fear of an attack by shepherds, while two others were killed by herders in the community. .

“We have two investors among us who took out loans to start a business after taking the land from the government, but they could not come back for the investment due to the fear of the shepherds, we have two investors who have been killed by shepherds.

“Someone like me has over 1000 acres of land, and I only farmed about 400 acres, I have over 600 acres of land that is just green vegetation, and the shepherds will be leaving the area. green vegetation and will enter the cultivated land, it is insensitive.

“In 2020, we made an investment of several million naira, we irrigated the land, but the shepherds invaded the farm and destroyed the whole investment.

“Some investors will cultivate a huge tomato farm, the shepherds will just bring their cows and destroy everything, I will be happy if you visit Igangan and talk to the farmers and see how happy they are because there is a bountiful harvest, not destruction.

“The only thing I can tell you is that in the whole Igangan community there are tensions because of the fear of retaliation from the shepherds, but when it comes to agriculture, everyone gets a good yield and no destruction.

“What we’re doing as a group of investors is bringing back other investors who had left because of the shepherd atrocities, and we’re hoping for a better 2022,” Abioye added.
