Sidipet: Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy observed that the Ministry of IT and Industries should take the lead in providing agricultural mechanization services to farmers on the lines of Ola and Uber cab Services. Expressing his views at the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Agriculture meeting held at Mulugu Horticulture University in Siddipet district on Thursday, the Agriculture Minister said that many farmers could not afford to buy agricultural equipment.
Where services have been provided on a hire basis at cheaper rates, Reddy said farmers will certainly adapt to agricultural mechanization. He further said that the effort will create jobs for thousands of young people like Uber and Ola created jobs. He also saw the need to use information and technology to educate farmers on modern technologies and innovative farming practices. Saying that Telangana has become a model for the rest of the nation in agriculture, the minister said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s first priority was agriculture.
While Telangana farmers used to eat PDS rice before the establishment of Telangana, Reddy said that now Telangana farmers are producing gigantic amount of paddy which has become a challenge to purchase. He added that the cabinet sub-committee needs to make field visits to design different policies. Asking the farmers to grow huge amounts of cotton during the Vanakalam harvest, the minister said they also aim to increase the area under potato cultivation in Telangana to 5 lakhs acres which will be enough to meet the needs of the community. ‘State.
He also stressed the importance of encouraging the cultivation of horticultural crops.
