Addis Ababa – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed today visited summer wheat farming activities undertaken in West Dembia Woreda of Central Gondar Zone in Ethiopia’s Amhara Regional State.
The regional presidents of Oromia, Amhara, Southern Nations and Nationalities as well as Ministers and other senior government officials accompanied the Prime Minister.
On this occasion, the head of the regional office of agriculture of the state of Amhara, Hailemariam Kefialew, revealed that 2 million quintals of wheat are expected from the 41,000 hectares of land being developed through irrigation in the region this summer.
He also said that some 2,600 hectares of land are irrigated in the central Gondar area of the Amhara region alone as part of summer wheat production efforts.
Some 100,000 quintals of wheat production should be harvested in the area; it was stated on the occasion.
The Prime Minister also visited the Gorgora project, which is part of the Dine for Ethiopia initiative, designed to improve the country’s tourist attractions.
The Gorgora project is expected to serve as a driving force for the development of Gondar and its environs as it is blessed with immense tourist attractions and other economic benefits including agribusiness and manufacturing.
The Dine for Ethiopia initiative also includes Wonchi and Koysha located in the Oromia and South Nations and Nationalities regions of Ethiopia respectively.
It should be recalled that the Dine for Ethiopia initiative raised more than 4.2 billion birr to finance the construction of the three projects.
