RS to showcase IoT and food safety products at NAMPO Harvest Day
RS Components has announced that it will join hundreds of exhibitors at this year’s NAMPO Harvest Day in Bothaville. Billed as the largest agricultural expo of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, the event sees thousands of visitors flock to the Free State’s farming town to get a first-hand look at the latest advances in technology, of equipment and tools for the agricultural industry in the South. Africa.
The event took a two-year hiatus in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year, to stay in line with Covid-19 regulations, the event will take place over five days instead of four, to accommodate the limited number of daily visitors to the show.
The Bureau of Food and Agricultural Policy (BFAP) reported that over the past two years, South Africa’s agricultural sector has been one of the best performing, contributing positively to the country’s economy. According to the BFAP, over the past 24 months, agriculture has been one of only four sectors of the economy to register improved growth, exporting $10.3 billion in agricultural products in 2020 and a record 12 .4 billion in 2021. In 2020, the agricultural sector grew by 13.4%, followed by a growth of 8.3% in 2021, placing it just behind the mining sector which achieved a growth of 11, 8%. The NAMPO Harvest Day is a platform for networking with key players in the agricultural industry, creating an opportunity for conversation and dialogue while allowing the public and other stakeholders to experience commercial farming and food security in action.
Grain SA, the organizer of the event, has received several new requests for exhibition space for the 54th edition of the Fête des Vendanges. Dr Pieter Taljaard, CEO of Grain SA, said that Grain SA is committed to implementing appropriate and necessary measures and action plans in relation to government requirements to host this event for new and returning exhibitors. , as well as for visitors. “The health and safety of visitors, exhibitors, staff, sponsors and the wider farming community during NAMPO Harvest Day remains paramount, and the organization will further be guided by current best practices to ensure that all appropriate and required health and safety controls are in place, facilitating the organization of a successful and valuable event for everyone involved,” he said.
He also added that Harvest Day will provide a much-needed injection to the local economy after its two-year hiatus, with many small business owners relying heavily on the income made possible through this agricultural platform. “Furthermore, the economic importance of NAMPO to businesses, medium and small businesses across South Africa attending the show cannot be underestimated,” he added.
Danise Smit, director of sales and customer service for RS Components in South Africa, said the company will showcase some of its IoT and Food Safe products and solutions at NAMPO. “We are in the fourth industrial revolution and the use of smart connected objects is becoming the norm in a number of sectors. By embracing technology and the Internet of Things (IoT), farmers can monitor their farms remotely and faster access to important environmental data, which will aid in better planning that can lead to better yield.RS has several IoT devices and solutions that can help empower the agriculture industry on its journey to the fourth revolution industry,” she added.
RS Components also offers a range of RS Pro Food Safe maintenance products for use in food processing and agriculture, which will also be on display at this year’s show. All RS Pro Food Safe products are registered with the National Sanitization Foundation (NSF), an international public health and safety organization, demonstrating compliance with risk reduction. The handling, preparation, processing and packaging of food products require machines whose moving parts come into contact with foodstuffs. Keeping this equipment clean and lubricated involves the use of non-food chemicals. NSF certification ensures that these products pose a significantly reduced risk to health and help to effectively eliminate the risk of food contamination when used appropriately.
Grain SA’s aim is to use NAMPO as a platform to showcase the role of the commercial farming sector in South Africa and highlight the country’s agricultural industry as a science-based and sophisticated economic sector that s is committed to providing the nation with safe and affordable food.
